SHOWREEL: VIDEO ILLUSTRATION

Showreel with excerpts from two e-learning videos ('Logistische Assistenzsysteme' & 'Supply Chain Risiko Management') I illustrated for GlobalGate GmbH, Dortmund (Germany), in 2014.

My job was to develop storyboards for the two texts and then reproduce the illustrations live in the studio. You can see some of my preliminary storyboard sketches (first draft) and a few photos from the video shoot in the introductory part of the showreel.

Please note that, since I can only show excerpts from these videos, the overall context and pace of the videos will be lost, at least in part. For a full uncut sequence of illustrations done to text, please check out the 'European Dream' video.

E-learning videos produced by GlobalGate GmbH. The narrator you can hear in the e-learning video excerpts is Harald Schwaiger. The voice and music in the introductory part of the video are my own.

THE EUROPEAN DREAM

Video exposé for an online study course called 'The European Dream'. This was an entry in the 2013 MOOC fellowship contest.

Prof. Dr. Hilke Brockmann and Prof. Dr. Philipp Genschel came up with the idea for this course. For the video, they wanted a live whiteboard illustration (as used to great effect by the British RSA, among many others).

My task was to develop a concept for the illustrations and draw them. We didn't have much time until the submission deadline, so the entire video (from the first brainstorm to the final cut) had to be done in just over one week.

Course concept and text: Hilke Brockmann, Philipp Genschel.

Filming, sound and video editing: Kai Mettler. Interviews: Judith Ahues.

My personal thanks to Leonoor Cornelissen.

Client: Jacobs University, Bremen.

VIDEO EXERCISE: PROBLEM

A short video exercise (non-commercial) created for a class with Henning Rogge (HfK Bremen, 2011).

We were asked to come up with a short clip (no longer than 10-15 seconds). My assignment was to work with the word 'problem'; target audience: boys in their early teens.

The music I used is an excerpt from Rhys Chatham's Drastic Classicism (1982; off his CD/LP Die Donnergötter). As I wrote, this video was but an exercise, it's not intended for commercial use. I have no intention of ripping off Rhys Chatham (nor anybody else LOL), whose work I greatly admire.

I chose this song because I know that, to most people, it will sound like the car crash feeling I wanted to convey. Personally, however, I really love this piece and consider it to be eight of the most blissful and intense, upliftingly noisy minutes ever recorded. It makes me quiver with energy and excitement. Thanks Rhys!
